I am wondering if anyone has modified their lesser stakes so they can use them anywhere no matter if the ground is frozen or not?

You can use a cordless drill to make a hole or you can use other stakes (shorter)made out of other material, such as fiberglass,or wood.Macks has some that are similar to the ghg Lstakes that you could cut off the piece on the side of the stake.I like mine long however, as we use them with great success in shallow water.

I was thinking about making bases similar to the ghg motion bases that are round on the bottom

How are you going to incorporate the top plastic piece on the new stand?

I was going to cut the plastic piece off from the stake and then figure out how to bring the two pieces together

If you get actual avery round motion bases and cut the motion tab off flush they fit and work perfect for the lessers or mallards

That's what I was actually going to do I just didn't know if anyone else did that and put the avian x lesser tab on top of the motion base or not I personally really like the lessers so that's why I am asking but I do also like the honkers too just too bulky to store

However you lose the ability to "lock" them in position on a windy day.

My idea was to cut the motion tab off and take the tab off the avian stake and put it on the motion base that was I was able to use it no matter what
