    I shoot 2s at geese with my 20s. If ranges are around 25 yards I use my . 410 and 6s. I have no problem killing mallards to 30 yds with 6s. 5s give me another 5 or so yds.

    Ooooh! I kill most of my geese with my 12, but more than a couple have fallen to the sweet 16.

    A Model 12 16 gauge is my dream gun.

    I'm in the same boat. My wife is going with me to hunt ducks, geese and grouse in Vermont next week and her gun is youth LT20 Remington 1100. It's limited to 2 3/4 in shells. Some shooting will be over decoys and some will be pass shooting in the swamps. It looks to me the best available load may be the Kent Tungsten Matrix shooting 1 Oz of #5. 5 is the largest shot size available in TM or bismuth.

    Any other recommendations?

    My mistake, it is my mother. I have the gun. Mom is on the right. Grandfather in the middle and great-aunt on the left, holding the gun.

    Can you kill geese with a 20 ga.? Yes, absolutely.
    Would I recommend it to a unexperienced shooter? NO, not a chance
    .
    Tell me again how much a dove weighs? { 6 ounces?}
    Don't know what species of geese you hunt, but just for the sake of the conversation, 8 LBS?
    Big difference there.

    If you go forward with this, please consider having her husband be her back up shooter. He watches her
    shoot, if she drops one clean, terrific. If she cripples one, hubby is right there to clean up.
    And as previously said, a 20 with a "magnum" goose load is going to really thump her shoulder.

    An inexperienced shooter will be a hell of a lot more deadly on geese with a 20 they're comfortable with than a 12 they are not.

    Yeah, there will probably be at least 2 or 3 of us with her when she hunts(she only comes out to spend time with her husband I think), but yes I've been standing behind her at the gun club and somewhat coaching her on shooting.
