2015 Chevy Silverado 4x4 Update

    I will agree the 5.3 VORTEC is a good motor, and with just a few mods you can unlock a LOT of extra HP out of them.

    I have just over 397,000 miles on an 07 5.3 with AFM. The first engine did burn a lot of oil but went 260,000 miles. The rebuilt engine has about 140,000 trouble free miles. The current engine burns about 1 qt. each 2,000 or 2,500 miles. Not perfect but not horrible.

    I'd like to learn engines, i'm just getting into ball joints and what not, i'm damn near certified on F-250 and Toyota front ends.:l Thanks to the generous youtube mechanics out there.

    Engines easy mane. Some valve work and bottom end stuff can be tricky, but the rest of it is mostly lefty loosely, righty tighty, beat to fit and paint to match.

    Oh, ball joints can be a mega PITA. I buy new control arms with the BJ's already installed- on Chevy trucks it's barely more expensive than buying the BJ's separate.

    Nah, I don't have the nuts to remove the pan on one.

    It was Nissan that had the "Hardbody" came out in 84 andahaf.

    Toyotas of the day were indistructable.

    I know.. I just call it a hardbody. It was just a Toyota P/U.
