I intend to buy a dozen CHEAP gadwall dekes. Purpose is for a couple of river hunts this year, and maybe next. My question... These dekes worry me about paint coming off really soon. I held them in my hands, and the paint feels pretty awful. Anyone have any? Worth the cost, or go with a little more expensive/better alternatives?

I agree with George. I try to live by "you get what you pay for". Trust your gut.

GHG lifesize Gadwall are $50 for 6. They work well enough for me when I hunt an area where Gadwall are edible. Higdon standards are $45. I don't think you will get decent Gadwall decoys cheaper.

It's been a couple of years but when I gave them the fingernail test, they failed miserably.

For only 2 hunts this year it makes zero difference what you get. They won't lose all their paint in 2 hunts.

I agree with the others that have posted, you get what you pay for. Buy quality, nothing worse than cheap decoys that leak and chip and are overall crap.

I have a dozen of the academy coots and they have about 40 hunts under their belt. Texas rigged and thrown in the bottom of the boat. Zero complaints. Only light wear on the beaks. I do believe that the black is molded in, instead of painted though.

Don't waste time and money on cheap decoys IMO. I'm starting to get pissed at my Higdons. Slight paint flaking. Need to try the Avians. GHG marketing turns me off so bad that I won't buy a decoy from them.
