Anyone on here familiar with Alpine Lake near Bear Valley? Kids have a place at Bear Valley and we are going to go up and take the grand kids fishing, but I've never seen the lake except iced over and covered with snow. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks

Beautiful lake. So danged crowded, though. :( At least on the weekends. I am intrigued with Bear Reservoir (Lake?) which is near-ish.

Drove through there last weekend and again on the 4th. Very busy, kayakers, paddle boards etc. Most people stay right by the road as the highway is very close to the lake. You'll be able to walk a little and get a spot to yourself. Then use the norm to catch the fish, power bait. Explore the area, it is beautiful.

It's gorgeous but there's better fishing elsewhere.

Not a great fishing lake. Planter trout can be had.
Bear river res. Is off hwy 88. Not 4.
It's going to be a bit of a drive to get from alpine to bear.
If you want to loose the crowd try highlands. Brook trout. The moke comes out of highlands. The river will be low.

Got all the info I need. Thanks. The reason I am going there is because the kids have a house at Bear Valley and it is only about 5 miles from the lake and they want to make use of it.

Been a few years, but I fished there light tackle after walking away from crowds, drop shot, 3-4 foot leader with marshmellow and either salmon eggs or power bait and I would catch trout.

I spent my childhood fishing there and most of the sierras. That place took a steep decline when they paved the road into it.

Good lake and like other have said walk a little get away from crowds and the typical power bait or worm set up works.. Scenery is great and the bloody Mary's at the bar along the road are top notch... Not much more of a drive back down hwy 4 head to Spicer res. if you want a little better fishing..But like you said something to say to staying close to cabin very nice area enjoy!
