I was thumbing through a copy of LtGen Harold G. Moore's book "WE WERE SOLDIERS ONCE.... AND YOUNG"

Mel GIbson made it into a movie "WE WERE SOLDIERS"....

Just last week one of the helicopter pilots was JUST awarded with the medal of honor.....

in the prologue I found this quote.... tell me if it doesn't seem to apply now....

The quote makes the case for the "support the troops but not the war" mantra.

Now, I can easily see that position while some others here most decidedly cannot. The problem I have with those espousing it though, is that most of them are completely disingenuous.

I disagree, to me it seems that you cannot claim to support the troops and not their actions (the war), that they are interlinked.

So you think Hal Moore was praising the protesters when he said they were not "sensitive enough to differentiate between the war and the soldiers who had been ordered to fight it"?

No, I don't think General Moore was saying that....

He was saying that you cannot "not support the mission" and "support the troops"....

to over generalize...... "you are either wid us or agin us"

I'm not busting your chops--I just don't see how anyone can read it as you are.

To me, he is clearly razzing the "professionally sensitive" for not being sensitive enough to differentiate between support for the troops and support for the mission to which they were "ordered". He clearly doesn't like that they did not make that distinction.

If he approved of troop and mission support being inseparable, then there would be no reason to slam the "sensitive" types in the Vietnam era for their consistency--as they mostly hated both.

I'm too old to diagram sentences, so I guess we'll just disagree on this one.:sp
