My 2 1/2 year old lab is in surgery right now having TPLO. Going to make this a bummer of a duck season, she had made great progress last season and was looking forward to a lot more progress this season.

Who is doing the surgery? If all goes well you might have her back in action in January. My recollection was around 8-12 week recovery time. The hardest part by far is the first weekand then keeping them contained and on a leash when they start to feel good and want to run but are still on restricted activity.

Dr. Vida at Vista Vet in Sacramento. It is a TPLO. His time table is 4 months. At that point, I don't see the reward versus letting her have another few months to recover before she is back chasing across a rice field. Guess will help get me in better shape having to chase my own ducks.

My 9 y/o female CBR had it done last year, and today you would not know she had surgery at all . Follow the vets instructions to the letter, it's better to be more cautious than less.

Dr. Vida did my pups TPLO and she has had exceptional results. I must have been off on the time table as I am sure its the same now as it was then (two years ago). Best of luck to you and your pup

Been there, done that. Took the whole season out , and rehab for 8 months. She blew it out at age 4, and is now approaching 12. Rear hips and legs are loosing strength, but she still comes out and retrieves. I keep her out of mud and muck, and try to give her easy water retrieves. Good luck.

I will get postup instructions tomorrow when she comes home, but it was starting walking at 2 weeks on leash and gradually building it up. Puppies may be different.

Everybody claims a dog laying around a blind flares ducks, I'll have to keep track and see if it is true.
