On social media the topic got pretty hot, so please keep it civil here. But what are you thoughts? Does the hunter paying the guide get to keep the band, or does the guide? And what about the guide that tries to steal the band?
I personally think the band should go the hunter. He paid for that duck/goose. I have never had a problem. But I would withhold that days money if they tried to swipe a band.

Hunters should always get the band if they killed the bird. ALWAYS If I ever even thought a guide was stealing the bands I would throw a fit and bash them every chance I got including on this forum. The waterfowl community is really a small group in the large scheme of the hunting world and word travels fast both good and bad.

If the hunters want it , they get it. If not I’ll keep it. Many clients don’t care about a band, nor do I anymore. Enjoy finding about the birds life but that’s it.

Why would anyone other than the shooter get it? It's a wild animal, taken by the hunter. Is guides keeping the rack from one of those big buck ranches normal?

Exactly. Walleye guides don't take a fish you caught to the taxi if you catch a hog, either. I'm not sure what kind of guide would want stuff like that from animals/fish he didn't take himself.

If a guide pulled that crap I would withhold payment and bash them every chance I got. Ever wonder how guides end up with so many bands on their lanyard? Just wondering?

My wife's uncle lives in Illinois, and he tells me there is a goose guide there that is notorious for it. He has witnessed it.
