I was out with Capt. Cormorant yesterday morning trying to get a few birds. As I was cutting some brush for a blind in the dark, my girl Bella went racing past me, obviously chasing something. She came back a few seconds later with a very alive drake Woodie in her mouth. It had obviously been wing-tipped by someone on an earlier hunt. I took it from her to dispatch it and, sure enough, banded! A Washington State band from 2 1/2 years ago. She's retrieved quite a few banded birds during her tenure, but this was the first that was all hers. She was more than happy to let me have it in exchange for a McDonalds cheeseburger on the way home.
