A friend of my father lives out in the country and is starting to have some issues with coyotes and foxes trying to get to his small dogs or just coming up into his yard or porch. He called and asked if I knew anything about predator calls...which I don't...but I told him I would ask the brain trust here on the Refuge.
He is looking for the best bang for the buck so to speak. He wants something that will call in coyotes but also crows, foxes, etc. What are your suggestions?

A general rabbit in distress would do what you require.

    Verminators tweety, psycho tweety
You could go to a generic closed reed style distress

These things are all over the place, the closed reed is idiot proof, the open reed style call is a little more difficult to learn, but more versatile, still, both are pretty basic.

Just sound like something that is getting killed, put as much terror and violence into the sound as you can.

If he wants electronic then I would say the Foxpro Spitfire is the best that I have used for the money.
They seem to be better than any other at under $200.

I have had some really good luck, using my daughters Ipod (downloaded a bunch of distress calls....chicken, rabbits, and rodents).

I use her wireless rechargeable speakers (but the size of a large cucumber).

Of course, I had this stuff already so it cost me nothing.
