Hunted NE of Willows on Saturday. Heard some ducks moving before shoot time. Had a 5 MPH North breeze until 10 AM and then it died to a flat calm. Managed a couple of specks before the wind died and the birds would no longer finish.

Saw very few ducks in the air. Lots of snows and specks moving in extremely large groups.

I can confirm Mark Seaters report that the birds are stacked water between Willows and Williams. I'm not sure if the recent rains have filled ponds or if the Term 91 limits have been lifted but there are lots and lots of newly filled checks viewable from the freeway with big flocks of ducks just putting around. I have to assume that ponds away from the freeway are just as loaded in which case I can tell you that the ducks are here.

However there are lots of freshly flooded places for those birds to go. The north valley is brimming with water and this weeks forecast looks to give them even more places to go.

Yep... though we had a few guys on here saying the birds have already showed up a month or more ago...but really they are just rolling in and the bad part is they will be stuck in all that toe water, flooded bypasses and rice water for the rest of the season in the north.... the grassland boys are going to see a trickle of birds till the end... hope it's enough to keep things interesting...I spend a whole lot of time in the swamps.. like almost every day and get to watch things as it develops, we are 3 weeks behind this year...IMO .....might be really cool to be a young gun this season..going to be a lot of birds for them !!! cool !

Gotta agree on the three weeks behind comment per Seaters.
Juniors are going to have a stellar cleanup.

I sure hope so. I’ll be helping “guide” a couple juniors who would really like to see a show.

Richval-Nelson along the midway was pretty desolate the other day. I’ve rarely seen gorill ranch devoid of birds.

Term 91 seems to still be in effect...
