Was in North Dakota last week and ran across a group that had Black Duck field decoys in their spread along with the Mallards. They shot a bunch of ducks. Might have been because they were in the X, but the ducks just locked and cupped. Now I know Black Ducks are rare in North Dakota, but wonder if the dark shell have better visibility than hen Mallards in corn stubble.
    Anyone have an opinion?

More likely the spinner(s) that did the trick...

Yup. And, they were well hidden. Probably also new birds to the area.

Agree on above comments but Black duck decoys would be more visible.

I would ask do the ducks there know the black ducks are supposed to stay in the city?

They must have been non-resident hunters from east of the Mississippi-----shooting new migrants !

We almost always run black ducks in our spread. They stand out and black ducks are weary birds. You can kill anything over black ducks.

I always set 3 Black Ducks dekes (off to one side) in my normal spread. A few years ago hunting on the Wabash River we saw flocks of Blacks w/Mallards mixed in w/them.

Depending on the situation, blacks are often more visible than birds with a ton of white such as sprig or cans.
