I ran Nothing but 26 bottles and the birds decoyed perfect with some even landing in them.
My Higdon flocked heads are prettier though.....
At one point we ran about 400 2 1/2 gal. jugs in addition to about 500 regular decoys. Tar and gas thinned until dippable was the method of choice around here. I switched to odorless mineral spirits and a brush after feeling like I was gonna die from the gas fumes a couple times. Could do a doz. or two at a time in the back yard that way.
Where do you guys get the tar for these projects??
Lowes, Menards, etc.
You can buy it in gallon buckets at most any hardware place.
Great to see a longtail and those jugs and that bounty!!
I don't think you could give me a short tail, I can't stand them. Much prefer a longtail.
A friend of mine tried his luck over 3 bottles after being on a couple hunts with me and seeing how well the birds worked the bottles(I only had 6 out on these hunts) and the one hunt the birds actually preceded the bottles over hand carved and painted black ducks that looked amazing.
Awesome. One of my best hunting spots growing up had a a bunch of stumps sticking out of the water. Ducks and geese would constantly come over and come into the stumps. They would circle and come down to 15-20 yards before they realized they weren't birds. You didn't even need any decoys.
Did you just paint these jugs or did you use tar? I'm going to make some myself and would rather paint them then use tar.
