They're pickin' up here and I started boiling some peanuts in a cast iron pot. The brine and the peanuts turned almost black. Just water, salt and peanuts in the pot. Any ideas what could have caused this?

Id say the cast iron did it, the brine probably caused it. When my Mom cooks beans in a cast iron pot they have a black tint to them

I live in northern Indiana, and love it when I hit southern Ga and buy up some Pnuts to bring home to boil. Love them !

If there soft, and dark tinted, they is done.

Learned a lesson today.... went and picked some peanuts that were just dug, a real "green" peanut, never been on a dryer. They boiled in about 2 hours and are 10 times better than a boiled peanut that's been dryed but not cooked.

True if you can get the green ones, do it, that's the true boiled peanut.

When I was in grad school at Auburn a yankee friend was puzzled over our long discourse on the wonders of good boiled peanuts. He said he had purchased some canned boiled peanuts from a store but didn't like them because they were so tough.

He was eating the peanuts AND the hulls....:nutz

I miss driving through rural Georgia this time of year and stopping by a roadside stand or little grocery store to buy some good boiled peanuts. Made a long trip so much nicer.
