    i have some 1 1/4 #5 at 1625 i feel very confident will smash ducks at 40.

once upon a time, i saw a couple kids wreck some honkers flying over a dove field at 45 yards with some low brass #8's

After a lot of years and a lot of birds, I'm a believer in 3" 12 gauge loaded with 1 1/8 ounces of #2 steel at 1,560 fps. If it weren't for messin' with different gauges and older guns that can't shoot steel, it'd be the only load I'd ever use. And, I use it on everything from teal to tundra swans...

First grouse hunt this morning. Tarna got into one little covey of Ruff's. I dropped one, winged another. She went for the dead one, we never found the winged. (Kinda hard to see em in all this smoke!!!)
    Grouse for supper.

Chasin sharptails last weekend. There are a fraction of the birds from what there was 30 years ago but still enough to make it fun. The irony is that the habitat is better now than what it was back then and never saw another hunter on opening weekend.

Where were you? MN drumming count was way up this year and my friends up near Cromwell did great Saturday morning. But then again they shot ruffed and spruce - not sharp-tail grouse.

Caribou WMA and surround area. Lots of TNC land that they manage very well.

Glad someone is seeing some. I went yesterday and got skunked. Didn't see a single duck all morning. Did catch some catfish on noodle rigs out in the open water though.
