I bought a dozen or so cheap teal deeks and I painted em up into hen buffs and drakes and those are the most realistic buffs I have hunted over and they love landing into them.

Interesting. I have a lot of extra drake GW Teals, maybe I will give them the Bradley Manning special and convert them to hen BH's.

I'm a decoy painter & I've painted all different kinds of decoys into Buffies, & they've ended up looking good & deking ducks. I recently got a huge sackful of woodie decoys from a guy, & he wants them into buffs. Something I haven't done before. Interesting!

If you're going to paint them, coot decoys look better than most other common species. I have painted teal, coots and all kinds of other decoys like buffleheads. Anything will work and all you need is flat white and flat black to paint them. Mix the two to get the gray for the bill.
