I sure wasn't expecting a big bass. When the water swirled below the popper I was thinking bluegill by then the explosion happened and somehow by the grace of God I landed it on 4lb tippit. 6 1/2 lbs. Going to have it mounted 20180531_140952.jpg

I’ll never have another fish mounted. What you get back is the taxidermist/artists rendition of your fish. Take a few measurements and pics and get a replica that will last a lifetime. The replica is as accurate as the skin mount. Regardless, congrats on a nice fish!

I completely understand your thoughts and I have released my share of good fish. This particular body of water won't miss this fish at all and I knew the reaction my children would have when I brought it home to them and catching a trophy bass on a fly rod has been a long time goal of mine so I chose the skin mount.

    Nice looking bass.
I'd just like to be able catch anything on a fly rod, tried it when I was younger, practiced and practiced but just couldn't get the hang of it.

I probably wasn’t very clear. My comments were not because I prefer the fish be released, I was trying to make the point that I think you get a better, longer lasting mount with a replica. Regardless, congrats on the nice fish.

If you can find some bluegill on bed they are a blast with the fly rod and very forgiving of miscues with the line. It seems that any color popper works well. 0000002651.jpg
