Nope, it was named after a city; never has it ever had anything to do with ham meat.

But if you put different ingredients in chili, what is it?

Soup. Stew. Depends on what you put in it.
But I do know that a bowl of chicken breasts with a pack of taco seasoning and a few diced peppers and chicken broth cooked for 30 min ain't no chili

I second the Carrol Shelby Chili Kit. I use this all the time and it's solid for sure. I have used both ground beef and venison for this one and it turns out great either way. I always pan sear and add 1 pound of smoked sausage to the pot before I let it simmer. My wife didn't like chili before we met, but this one drew her in. I get this requested from my family at least twice a month.

I use a curry veggie stock and non-GMO ground tofu and non-GMO organic figs prunes and flax seeds, it turns out amazing.

Good Lord, I'd rather my son grown up to be a figure skater than eat that.

Thanks you for posting this recipe....family loved it. I used 4# beef and 2# chorizo and added beans....was great! Wife questioned the cumin and chili powder amount, but I stuck to the recipe and it paid off.

I'm curious, how much chili powder and other seasoning would you northern guys normally use in a recipe of this size? I know yall don't use a ton of seasoning but honestly I'm a little surprised so many of you seem surprised at the quantity.
