We just purchased a new lab male pup on thanksgiving. Kind of having a hard time picking a name. My oldest daughter asked what the sires name was and she liked his name ans thinks we should use his call name for our pup also. Is this a common thing? Obviously his registered name would be different.

My oldest dog is named after my Kids. Lindsay, Emma and Hannah (LEAH). My pup is named Scarlet. On the second day after they were born we had a blackout in the house. We went downstairs to check on pups and had to use a battery operated camping light to see them. After we checked the pups my daughter picked up the lantern and it broke. The heavy part with the large square battery fell and hit her on the front right paw and split her skin. No skeletal damage but left her with a permanent "Scar" on her paw. Good luck with the pup.

You can have fun with a Thanksgiving day dog:
(*) historic names - William Bradford or Miles Standish
(*) Sports - Cowboy, Viking, Giant, Lion

Or go with standard stuff like
(*) Gun manufactorure - Remington, Purdey
(*) Hunting theme - Hunter, Drake

Or go with Kennel name + something that sounds good: Crosswinds Traveller, Sunrise Zigzag

Or just wait for something hits you...
