I have a 1442 flat bottom jon boat that I am thinking of getting a mud motor for. I am eyeing the Copperhead 12HP lct surface drive. Does anyone have any input on this motor for my size boat ? Would flotation pods be necessary ? Thanks for any input.

Don't have one but read a lot on them...you could step up to the 18 or 23, 135 and 138 lbs. respectively, bet the 1442 could handle either. Not sure about pods, give Copperhead a call, they have answered my questions.

bullcan, did you get your motor? Just wondering what HP model you bough and how it performs?

I think a 12 hp should be ok on your jon boat & move you along ok. You should not need pods either.
Copperhead is know to make excellent motors, & great people to work with.
