I read the Hastings book 8 - 9 years ago when it came out. I felt the author was a bit biased toward Monty. If you have read this I am sure you have read the Ambrose collection, there is not a bad read in all of his works. One of my favorite WWII reads ever was Panzer Commander by Hans Von Luck. It gives a whole other view that you wil enjoy.

Makes sense since he is British. He also seems a bit awed by the resilience and fighting ability of the Germans. Makes the case that man for man they were better soldiers than the Americans or British. For more along this line, try his book Overlord.

    Affirmative on the Ambrose.
D-Day, Citizen Soldiers, Band of Brothers. :tu

I'll have to read that one by Von Luck.

A couple of others I've read from the "Dark Side". ;)

    Panzer Leader - Heinz Guderian
Panzer Battles - Friedrich Von Mellenthin

The German soldier may have been superior. The loss of air superiority and decimation of supplies and reinforcements is what lost the war for them. Look what they achieved at the battle of the bulge, they kicked the crap out of us for 2 weeks. They just could not make it all the way to Antwerp and left their flank wide open. I could talk ETO all day. If you ever have the chance hit the D-day museum in New Orleans

Charles Mac Donald is another traditional memoir author
    "Time for Trumpets"
    "Company Commander"
