Towards dark hundreds of black-bellied whistling ducks started flocking it to the south. They were still coming over the house well after dark.

Lake Michigan, North Eastern WI had thousands of Mallards, black ducks and geese this week. I saw forty acres of standing corn being mowed down by all these birds the other day. They would land in the snow between the rows reach up and pull down on the ears of corn. Mallards looked like they were trying to land on the stalks too.

Zero degrees this AM. No idea what the windchill was.
I've never seen Gads here after Thanksgiving, but killed some earlier this week and again this morning.
    Couldn't believe it.
Geese and blacks are plentiful as expected.
Mallards appear to have headed for more hospitable climes.
Record cold temps and flood tides can make for deadly conditions.
Ice got a couple of new goose floaters and they needed to be saved.
My buddy snapped this pic of the rescue effort.
You can see how thick the sea smoke is in the background

That's a little surprising @num70 . We kill gaddies up until closing day here in MN/WI. In fact until last week when we completely froze up we had plenty dumping into the decoys while late season goose hunting.

Birds are finally here in big numbers ( Eastern Wash.) We went out the last 2 days and shot 35 mallards.
The first day we were done with 21 by 8:30 and yesterday we were done with14 by 9:30.
