Are there any of you decoy makers out there that take requests for replicas?

I recently saw some older decoys that I really liked. Maybe I'm asking for something I shouldn't? Is it rude to copy someone elses decoy?

    Anyway, here they are:

Mason Challenge Grade Green Wingers, ca 1910-1920. Very cool birds. It’s not improper to try and copy another’s decoy, it’s done all the time. There are carvers who could make a pair that are very close to these, the one thing no one has successfully accomplished is 100 years of patina. I haven’t seen a pair like that at auction but I would guess they would sell for 15K - 20k.

I love the "S" shaped keel - I bet it makes the little guys swim perfect.

If the person is alive, it is usually a good idea to get permission to copy. Best to slightly alter, to fit what you want, especially, if your intent is to profit from this venture. Using someone else's patterns, etc., without authorization, amounts to theft of intellectual property. Might even be a good idea to pay royalties, if ucing a living person's ideas?
Nice copies of the Masons, btw.
I would assume that as long as you advertised them as replicas, there would be no problem, as the company has been out of business for a long time.

I don't want to make them. I want a pair for myself to display.
