Interesting. It appears that prior to 2009 - during regular season games NFL teams were in the locker room until after the National Anthem was played - then the visiting & home teams were announced to come out on to the field.

And now it turns out that the Department of Defense has spent $6.8 million in taxpayer money to professional sports teams to honor the military at games and events over the past four years.

And who looked into it? John "NO" McCain! :l

This was a topic in the media a year or so ago. Some felt that it was wrong but it's a business and thus the whole process became a promotional event. This why I posed the question on the other thread as to whether you just dont play the Anthem. Or, it seems to validate to me what the Steelers did, except for the one guy who now wishes he hadn't. McCain is a smart guy and is more detailed oriented then some.

Eel's post about last year or so reminded me that the DOD paying was because the military was allegedly using it as a marketing tool to recruit new personell.

I think the fly overs were mentioned, at the time, to recruit new pilots.

Bear is correct, but liberal eel cantvresist trying to spin something to lied to himself he is the smartest in the room .

Only question remains is it a good expenditure in regards to recruiting .
The anwser to the question may be changing with regards to team and player behavior.

Like NFL claiming to honor our nation's military has the same ring as swampeers claim they will repeal Obamacare.

Be nice to think that the Pentagon wouldn't have to pay for the NFL to show American patriotism....

You sound bitter today. It's reality Ron. NFL struck a deal and thus came the Anthem at a different time in pregame. It's a business Ron, let the business owners make their own mind up. Telling them what to do, sounds liberal doesn't it.

It's possibly that the Pentagon paid for a "show" instead of patriotism.

Why wouldn't you play the national anthem before a sporting event?

If you don't want to hear it - nobody is forcing you to listen to it. You're free to mute your television and you're free not to attend the sporting event.
