Shhhh! It's a socialists conspiracy. Oh wait......... I forgot that we're talking about not supporting Fienstein's effort to grab a scarce public resource for her friends benefit. :l

LMAO Never said it was concrete evidence...it just provides a little food for thought perhaps on what is otherwise an excellent organization. I did also say that perhaps they should have taken the pulse of the constituency before acting on their behalf which I don't think was done. Personally I don't know why the letter was written and some folks have helped to shed some light in that arena which I appreciate...but that will ferret itself out internally I imagine.

Just playing the center and a little devils advocate. People go off to one side too far and sometimes it's good to have some perspective.

Stop bothering me Mitch I need to read through all the Lab Resue threads again! :dv

Really? Hmmmm...it also says something about supporting all wildlife and science based decisions as well then...OK

That's funny it just stated ALL the core values and not just ONE above all others. You can't just take one line out and throw it back at me either now. They all work together much like the ingredients of a good stew...too much "salt intrusion" and it starts to taste foul, if you know what I mean...LOL

My involvement in DU goes back over 45 years from the local, state and national level raising money for DU to a point where I coulnd not move up the ladder further due to time constraints that it demands. You ask me about their Charter...you will not find it on their web site nor do I have it at my finger tips however there are two distinct diffenences here needing to be quanitfied...working with various politicians and government agencies and making statements as they did and subsequently crossed the line. Sure I am angry with this as are many DU supporters. I fully expect one of two things will happen if not both as a result which I expect will come to light before month's end. DU members across America are inscenced (like it or not they are)! They have spoken firmly and remember DU employees are just that. It is the members who have dedicated their time and money who ultimately are in charge! If you have questions I suggest you speak to the DU President. While I have not spoken to him personally on this matter I know he is fully informed!

The organization is called Ducks Unlimited. It's sole existence is due to Duck Hunters. The Statement they made directly impacted in a negative way the wetlands south of the Delta, by taking a position that reduces the amount of water for Ducks. That position might have made sense if the water situation had remained the same or became worse, but we are undoubtedly in a much better situation as far as water levels go than we were previously. There was no need for them to come out against DF's proposal that only gave back a small portion of the water the central valley needs. If their decision was based on science they made no reference to anything scientific. I have no problem with DU helping in the protection of ES, however they should not make these efforts without balancing the negative effect it will have on their primary bread winner, water fowl.

I can see how you think that your "lobbying" conservation organization for DUCKS should be more responsive to those it serves instead to the greater good of both waterfowl and all of the other creatures that might be competing for survival on the same playing field. Right or wrong depends on how much you care about some things over others I guess... Yes I do understand that this issue PERHAPS might have greater political overtones than just science based ones.

    Believe me I understand perfectly...

I know it's called Ducks Unlimited not Ducks Only...My understanding is that as an organization they deal "primarily" with habitat issues but also support hunters involvement among with many other legislative and other efforts. But in order to support ducks sometimes everything else has to also be in balance...when an ESA issue comes to head with a "economic" or other resource issue they have to be held in the appropriate balance with regard to their competing interests? What is that balance...that's whats up for discussion and hard decisions.

All other issues aside just answer me this honestly and then I'll be done pestering you guys...if the economic well being of farmers and ducks were to temporarily be degraded in one year for the existence of a species who's interest should win out?

For me that's another thread discussing the ESA. This thread is about what DU did per se.

P.S. The Grasslands does have it own Endangered Species that deserves protection, the Giant Garter Snake...the smelt is catagorized as threatned not endangered.
