I hunt out of a Canoe exclusively, both for floating rivers, as well as stationary.
If you want to go this route, you need to get yourself a wide bottom canoe, not a narrow one, used for speed a maneuverability.
Side sponsons, are a plus, my buddy has these on his Canoe, I do not. We shoot out of both all of the time, two guys, never had issues, never feel like we will go over, they are very stable platforms.
One of the best out there is the Lincoln Sportsman, low profile, wide bottom, comes with sponsons, my next canoe will be this one.

I use mine a lot. Very stable. Almost impossible to swamp. My dog can swim up and climb in no problem.

canoe was not going to work, so I bought a beavertail sneak kayak, it works great, I have a nice dry storage area. knocked down a couple of woodducks.

Duck8er, I used to hunt up your way a few years back, my name on here was "mash" or somthing close to that, I forgot, I lost my job and ended up in Mobile fro 3 years, now Im back home in North Alabama, I used to have an old 14' jon with a briggs 5 HP motor on it eveybody, could hear that thing!:flame
