"I am honored to accept this award on behalf of Ducks Unlimited," said Alabama DU State Chairman Chad Hughey. "To date, Ducks Unlimited has worked with partners to conserve more than 18,000 acres of important waterfowl habitat across Alabama, and we plan to continue making strides toward our mission of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever."

The Alabama Wildlife Federation's Governor's Conservation Achievement Awards are the most prestigious conservation awards in the state. For more than 30 years, the awards have been presented to individuals and organizations that make great contributions to the conservation of Alabama's wildlife and related natural resources.

"The purpose of the Governor's Conservation Achievement Awards program is to promote leadership by example and, in turn, increase conservation of the natural resources of the state of Alabama," said *** Executive Director Tim Gothard. "DU Alabama has [been] and continues to be the leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation. In recognition of their commitment to conservation in Alabama, and in honor of their 75th anniversary, we are proud to present the 2012 Conservation Organization of the Year award to Ducks Unlimited."

Ducks Unlimited projects in Alabama represent an investment of more than $1.7 million from DU supporters. Project sites include Mobile-Tensaw, Swan Creek, Mud Creek, Raccoon Creek, Demopolis, David K. Nelson and Mobile Delta wildlife management areas, as well as Wheeler, Key Cave and Eufaula national wildlife refuges.

Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, DU is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, with special events, projects and promotions across the continent. Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
