The cop deserved what he got. No doubt.

But lower in the article I read:

The case touched a nerve in this small city where deer, bear and mountain lion sightings are common, and dogs can be walked off-leash only in special areas and then only if their "dog guardians" have been specially certified by the city.

    Specially Certified Dog Guardians? :scratch

Is that called permitted to carry a .357 while airing out your dog? :tu

Break the law and pay the price. I don't care what you do for a living. Burn him into the ground and make it hurt bad. Jail time is appropriate in my opinion. If a regular citizen would do time for it so should anyone else who commits the crime.

He was a full blown idiot poacher!

Sounds like the big uproar was because it was basically a neighborhood pet. The kind of place you can't walk your dog without a leash. He'll probably get hammered.

In Kansas the feds tried some big time trophy poachers from Texas, found them guilty, and slap their wrists:mad:

Those guys got some time at first. They appealed and a lot of it got dropped down to that slap. They did close their outdoor store after, apparently the fines put them out of business.
They were definitely jacklegs that you wouldn't want in your state.

Taking an animal out of season
Taking an animal without a permit or license

Hey thank God a dog wasn't killed in his psychopathic rampage !!

This could have turned out bad for the cop if he had.
