Whenever it fits.
I'm with that guy.
I got deep into the church of linguine and clams last night.
I think you guys are missing the forest for the trees. While "religion" certainly has it's issues, I just don't see it as the cause of war and violence. That blame lies much more on politics, power, territory, money, etc----religion comes into play mostly as a tool or an excuse but is not the root cause.
If everyone on earth lived as Christ taught us to live, all of the bad things Bang mentioned would cease to exist. While I can't/won't speak on behalf of other religions, no one has ever been killed on behalf of Christ. To blame Him for those things is like blaming a gun for a murder.
Debate religious beliefs all you want, I believe it is a healthy thing to discuss, but only a simpleton can actually blame Him for the misuse of His word.
Like the Crusades?
Precisely. The teachings of Christ didn't lead to the crusades.
Coming from someone who proselytizes on here that's ironic............
I've had numerous discussions with Christians of other denominations (which can be pretty heated) without either of us ever feeling the other was trying to offend. I can say the same of conversations with Jews and Muslims, and obviously we have VERY differing beliefs. About the only belief system which seems to lead its followers to attempting to offend is the belief in nothing.
Atheists seem to have a need to believe their lack of faith is a sign of intelligence.
That's exactly my experience as well.
