    Northern pintail:
In 2010, the Service and Flyway councils adopted the adaptive harvest
management protocol to inform harvest management decisions for northern pintails in a
    ll
four flyways. For pintails, optimal regulatory alternatives for the 2017 hunting season in
each flyway were calculated using: (1) an objective of maximizing long
    -term cumulative
    harvest, including a closed-
season constraint of 1.75 million birds; (2) current pintail
regulatory alternatives; and (3) current population models and their relative weights.
    Based on a liberal
regulatory alternative with a 2 bird daily bag limit selected in 2016, the
2016 survey results of 2.62 million pintails observed at a me
    an latitude of 58.6 degrees,
the optimal regulatory choice for the 2017 hunting season for all four flyways is the
liberal regulatory alternative with a 1 bird daily bag limit.

I read it as 1 for next year. This isn't good news for PF hunters unless the author is glad it wasn't reduced to "0".

I have never liked the Pintail matrix. We were warned about this 6 years ago when the new model came out. CA winters 60% of the continental population and your gonna give us the same as the other 3 flyways? Sprig are half the duck totals at Sac NWR in Oct. Hope it doesn't hurt CA duck stamp sales long term. And hopefully the birds get well last 3 million in 2017.

Actually according to the report I read that they are recommending the limit be 1 sprig per day. Most likely this will be adopted but it isn't law yet from what I read. The feds still have to adopt it and then so does the state. Which will most likely happen, but maybe not. Weak maybe.

That's the Fed framework. The limit is 1 for 17-18.
