heard through the grapevine today that someone's waterhole had too much of the yellow sugar in it and got shut down opening morning. we always sit around in the blind or pit and talk about whether the geese or ducks are just feeding in a certain area on their own accord or if someone has sweetened the spot. you can typically figure it out pretty quickly if birds keep getting shot and coming back day after day.

Well today was interesting. Had a good number of ducks pitch in. I could not hit a damn thing, all close shooting and I was wiffing. 11 shells burned and one duck in boat. Then the autoloader went from auto, to double, to single shot, then the bolt handle fell out into the mud. Miraculously during a moment of just staring downward in shame after my latest miss I saw it. Ended up with 4 mallards (with just 5 shells left in my jacket). Left with a smile on my face.
