Got a chicken

    I got a chicken 2 weeks ago. Built her a nest box yesterday, and today, got my first return on my investment (so far, between the chicken, pen, food, nest box, etc., I’ve sunk a whopping $7 into this venture).

    Golden comets supposed to have up to 300 eggs a year. Pretty cheap, for $7. She’s free ranging now. I just wanted to see if it was true that any idiot can raise chickens. :)

    Just giving you a hard time.

    A guy I work with has about a dozen layers and has more eggs than he can deal with. It's his wife's baby, which means the coop is his biggest problem. Sounds like as a free ranger you won't have to deal with that.

    I had chickens from when I was a kid in the 60s till my kids grew up and left home. Lots of fun! I had bantams mostly.
    When coyotes started showing up in GA in numbers they cleaned me out.

    Hope she doesn't encounter a free range fox. My trailcams last deer season recorded some interesting video. One was a healthy lookin fox with a chicken in his mouth, and a "hey look what I got" smile on his face.

    Wife wants a doz or so. Raccoons are hell on chicken. A friend lost $100 worth of chickens to them last week.

    Foxes and coins?!? Heck, I’m just worried about the girl Black and Tan right now. That hen is giving her fits.
