I'm looking for hearing enhancement/protection for duck hunting as my hearing isn't what it use to be. My question is there anything out there that lets you hear wing beats but doesn't have your calling sound muffled? I do want it to protect from shotgun blasts. Any help with this would be awesome. Thanks for looking and any info you can provide. God bless.

I use Sound Gear Platinum. They are expensive, but there is zero wind noise, I can hear everything and more, along with wing beats. I sound a little muffled when I talk but my calls do not. Who knows, I may sound that way and never knew it. Buy once cry once, but what a great piece of tech. They are molded to your ear canal as well so the fit is perfect.

So I take it that you use the custom fit versus the instant fit one?

That is correct, they molded them to my ears and I had to wait for about 10 days for them to come in once ordered.

I felt the need to go with full protection because I have lost 70% hearing in my right ear from years of agriculture and construction and 20% in the left.

I have a hard time distinguishing sounds when there is a lot of background ambient noise. I wanted to protect what I have left.

Like I said, they muffle my voice a little, and calls sound the same. The calls are not muffled, but they do reduce the sound so I tend to call harder. It’s not perfect, but as close as I have found after many purchases of other devices and trials.

I have two pair now, one for work and one for hunting in the field.

The work unit is not the platinum, because I don’t need the wind protection, but I use the platinum version in the blind

Zero wind sounds like a nice feature.

    Gentlemen,

Are either of these covered at all by insurance?
