+1 on the E.A.R. digital plus. I had mine custom molded at Game Fair in Anoka about 12 years ago. They are super light - fit perfect and you can turn them up or down to hear ambients noises such as wing beats, deer crunching across leaves and you dog whining... Bring extra batteries along with them at all times.

Anyone know if you use your Flex Spending Account??? That's a 30% savings if you can. I'll do some digging and see what I can find out.

I and several friends swear by Howard Leight Impact Sport earmuffs. Low cost, amplify sounds, protect from gun blasts, keep ears warm, and low profile so they don't interfere with gunstock.

+1 on the Howard Leights. I do not shoot without mine. GREAT affordable (I have 3 pairs) product!

No, my insurance did not cover them. Although I have no hearing loss (that I have been tested for), my wife does and wears hearing aids. Insurance doesn't cover hers either.

As someone posted above, look into your health savings account if you have one. I did not have one at the time I purchased my ear plugs.

I wear mine hunting all day, probably average 15 days per year. I also wear them shooting USPSA handgun. I probably shoot that 30 evening matches plus another 30 half or full-day weekend matches every year.

I also use the Howard Leights. I do get some wind noise when it's really bad, depending on the direction of the wind. They also come in camo patterns.

Overall, I'm very happy with them.

Mine were not, as they are considered "prevention". My hearing aid was covered, but not the protection. I asked if they understood the irony of that. They did not.
