So after about a year and a half of throwing the idea around, I finally put down the deposit today for a pup. I couldn't be more excited! September 9th I'll be the proud owner of a male Chocolate Lab. It's time to start reading some training books. Any help for a first time lab owner would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Get the how to "Train a Retriever puppy" by Bill Hillman dvd. You will be glad you did. Great low pressure training program that results in happy puppy.

Lots of people like Hillmann, a lot of people like Lardy, but for me, I still prefer Graham ("Smartwork" series of books and DVDs.

Pulled the trigger last Nov and have had a blast with my first pup. Cornerstone Gundog Academy has been my 'go to' guide.......Enjoy!

Congrats! I wish I could afford to go to some sort of club or take private lessons with him, but that's out of the picture for awhile. Plus I think it would be cool to be responsible for him if he turns out good....or it could be terrible! Haha

Congrats. I am getting my 3rd Chocolate in September also. It's been 3 years since my last buddy. Good luck!
