The temps here have been in the low to high teens every morning this past week. Almost everything is frozen up. This morning, it was 18 at shooting time. We had a little open water and a lot of ice. Gumbo retrieved 9 Wood Ducks on a very quick hunt.

Despite my embarassment for letting Calvin's coat get so out of hand this winter, I thought I share the photos anyway. I've realized I can't make it all the way through the winter without a grooming with the marcel coat. It just keeps growing out!

Wow. The brother to my Boykin has a coat that looks just like your dog. He has to be trimmed twice a year.

Calvin gets groomed 3-4 times a year. His coat grows pretty fast. I didn't want to shave him down in the middle of the winter, but realize I will have to get him in to at least be trimmed over the winter months.

Doesn't grooming a spaniel sort of "shave" their reputation as working gundogs?

Does by my measure, at least doing anything with their appearance beyond a good comb of the ears.

Nice shots of Rock, Karl - knew he'd impress so that you couldn't have just one. :clap

    Mike,
His brother is really coming along. I am taking my time with him and he is going to be grand. Taking him to his first tower shoot on Saturday.
