I picked one up a few years ago that I THOUGHT was done. NOT, as soon as I picked it up it started again I should have gotten a few stitches. Last year my friend did the same thing and needed to get stitched and got a real bad infection.

The second reason to wear snake boots...

You get a 3-4 year old with some good hooks, he can do some damage.

I have been cut many times from sharp spurs. I had one several years ago that tore through a leather palmed glove. I also have a scar on my wrist from one who got me as well. A sharp set of hooks is a nasty weapon.

Huntin' in SC, many moons ago, I shot a big tom and jumped on to hold it down until it expired.
When I got back to camp, the guys wondered if I didn't get the worse end of "the fight" and wanted to help patch me up my wounds and offered to take me to an ER.. but somehow I mended on my own:l

I always look at the spurs before I pick up a tom. I have come close to getting spured to many times over the years. They do not have to be hooks to do damage. The one I shot yesterday took forever to finally flop his last. All I had to do was touch a leg and it would start to flop. I filled out my tag while I waited for it to quit flopping on contact

I hate to stand on a head as I give all of my good heads to a taxidermist friend to have freeze died to replace damaged heads.

Hevi-shot 4s from a 10ga keeps them from flopping. He didn't twitch once.
