What kind of speeds will a Hyper Sport 35 attain on a a 17ft jon boat with square chines and .100 gauge hull?

    With 1 man?
    2 Man?
an 2 man loaded (75 goose floaters and a dozen mallards)?

Also, how should one have the boat geared if he ussually hunts with 2 guys in the boat and a very heavy load (75 goose floaters and a dozen mallards)

    Thanks,
    Chris

There are so many variables in the equasion that it is hard to give a real accurate estimation of speeds.

I would probably guess you are going to be in the 23-28mph range with 2 guys and gear.

You have to decide what is more important top end speed, with a lighter load, or lower end power with a big load.

If you will be pushing a big load most of the time we will gear it down one size from standard.

I agree about a lot of variables...but you also don't list the width of your Jon...if it's 48 and under, it will likely be a lot faster empty, and some slower loaded down, than the over 48 boats. Hard to say, but your load is actually mild compared to some...especially when you are talking a .100 gauge boat...so I'd think the standard (38) gears would be just fine...still, no way we can armchair it all from here, regardless. :)

    I'll 3rd the variables.

    I'll 2nd that.

All depends on the hull weight, size, configuration -------- as well as load and it's distribution.

The boat is 48 inches wide with pods which might have to be cut off to work with the Hyper short tail.

Do I need the 35 or can I go with a less HP hyper?
