In early July, 4 waterfowlers met with the Corps of Engineers at the Alta villa ramp, we asked what improvements could be done to make access better for all not just waterfowlers at Alta Villa and at the Harbor Point gravel ramp. The reps of the COE realized the ramps area in poor condition and at this time they have money to at Alta Villa dig out the slipped pads and replace with a gravel ramp. At the Harbor Point gravel ramp, they dig out the launch area and dig a trough to slightly deeper water. They said they would fill out the paper work and hopefully get both done before fall. No Promises though.
Well they have the money, and all but one permit is needed to start work. it is sitting on a desk awaiting approval.

If anyone has a spare minute, please call Raymond Swearingen at 636-899-0058 and ask what we need to do to get this done asap. Pressure from the public is what is needed to get over this bump in the road.

Right now the folks are using the area to the left of the ramp at Alta Villa to launch their boats.

We asked if they could dig out the ramp at Dresser island and we were told that is up to Gary Calvert of the MDC.
The ramps are not just used for waterfowlers but all sorts of river craft
Give them a call if you can.. even if it is only left on his voice mail.

all but one permit has been acquired and that should happen in 30 days, it looks like the Alta Villa ramp will have the slipped concrete pads removed and replaced with gravel before the season opener and due to the river level, the Alton lake gravel ramp at West Alton should have the ramp dug out and regraveled and they will dig a trough as far as the track hoe can go but will return when the water is low and pursue digging towards deeper water.
