Yeah, let the jokes fly LOL

I've got an uncle that is a famous fiddle maker and he wants to make one out of Manzanita. Does anyone know of a place where I could get some manzanita lumber? I need pieces that are 3/4" thick by a couple inches wide and 12-18 long, and it must be knot free.

I believe Handloggers Hardwoods is still in business in Marin (Larkspur?). Might want to give them a call and see if they have any Manzanita.

How big of piece? Could always cut a piece of a manzanita limb for him.

Try finding him some coastal madrone, it is closely related, just as hard and he has a chance to find knot free wood.

For sure..... coastal madrone is basically a big ol' manzanita. Phenomenal firewood too..... probably the best there is.

Look up Almquist Lumber in Arcata. I've seen madrone there, and have access to just about everything that is available anywhere. There was a mill with a kiln named Wild Iris in SoHum making beautiful flooring out of madrone. I know madrone isn't very stable as any kind of dimensional lumber. I would think manzanita would be even less.

It has to be dried real slow. It makes for some fantastic hardwood floors. It is fantastic firewood, burns hot and clean.

Manzanita ain't going to work unless he cuts it himself and processes himself.
