It is the population density and the cost of living in that high density situation is what causes much of the problem. Actual livable land is much, much smaller than total land mass in California.

California already dictates much of what goes on in the United States. Their Prop 65 rules can dictate what companies do across the entire country since about 1 in 10 Americans live in California and companies do not want to have two SKUs (one for California and one for the rest of the United States).

When I moved from California to North Idaho in the late 90s people would ask where I moved from. I would sheepishly reply "California". To my surprise, the locals were more welcoming than I'd anticipated. The overwhelming response I got was "we don't care where you came from, just remember why you left there and don't try to recreate that place in Idaho". As that was never my intention, it's gone very well in our new place of abode.

North Idaho is generally a live and let live type of environment. People may have their beliefs, but they are not going to try to push them on you. The new arrivals generally recognize that and assimilate well.

I relocated from California because my job allowed me to transfer to the kind of place that on balance, I preferred living in vs. California.

    And how.
The liberals have already done that to us here in Nevada.
There is a big increase of them moving here from CA and back east.

Build the wall...from San Diego to Seattle and don't let any out! Leave the southern end (Mexico) open, tho' so they can continue to be Sanctuary Cities.

Where in California they come from makes a huge difference. People from the rural areas are leaving to get away from big brother. People leaving from the cites...get the backhoe and dig a hole, you're gonna need it.
