Carp are treated as a total pest here, they have escaped into a lot of our waterways.I know they net them for them petfood,so theres a few $$$ to be made out them.

Over here on the Columbia River they have a bounty on Northern pike Minnow (Squaw fish), $3 a fish for the first 500 then 5$ a fish after that, If a fella knew what they were doing you could almost make a livin catchin fish.

Squawfish are predators, and they're number one diet is salmon and steelhead smolts.

What Tlingit Warrior just said is so funny to me it almost makes me puke. You guys in Washington have a bounty on the squawfish and here in Colorado we are about to totally ruin the Yampa rivers Pike and Smallmouth fishery to save the damn things because they are an endangered species and the pike and bass "supposedly eat all the poor little things. Funny though they're not removing any trout. Apparently a 18+ inch brown or rainbow only eat bugs and would never think of eating a threatened species, even though their mission statement is to purge none native species from the Colorado river drainage. I guess even our DOW thinks trout have always just been here.

Did I mention that the Yampa is the only river in Colorado that have pike and smallies? Sometimes the wildlife officials around here make me want to scream.

Carp are fun to catch, but should be killed, especially where I fish, saginaw bay, is also the same place I duck hunt. I have hit a few with the 25hp merc, and its not pretty.;)

I catch a lot of carp by accident when I'm fishing for smallies in the river. They all get thrown on shore for the predators to eat. I own the land and I can fertilize it any way I want. The rivers here are over run with carp.

We wack the hell out of them with a bow but it seems you don't even make a dent in the population.

This thread is hillarious! Our DNR spends a lot of money getting rid of carp in this state and they are still all over the place. They are the lowest form of aquatic life on earth.

Chris, your post reminds me of when we were kids and found a hundred or so carp trapped in a stream. We only had one spear, so the rest of us used axes to dispatch them.

I know in Europe they're treated as a gamefish, but Europeans are pretty messed up anyway.

Please continue to kill all the carp you can Chris! They are an exotic invader and do not belong in our waters!
