Good deal. Threads like this are precisely why my dog has tags and is micro chipped.

I have a tag riveted to her collar. How much is a microchip?

Don't know what a vet office would charge. Got my dog chipped and rabies booster at a mobile unit at the local tractor supply for $30 so I would imagine it's not much. If she's picked up all they have to do is scan her shoulder blades and all my contact info shows up.

I micro chipped my pup at the vets office, think it was $45 or so. Hope I never have a situation where it's needed but well worth any amount of $ it would have cost in my opinion.

Most vets and shelters have readers now set up for all protocols of chips... our breed sends pre-programmed chips with the pedigrees now (because the Greenies in Europe think the tattoos are inhumane). So, my pup has both a tattoo and is chipped. For $20 I registered the chip with one of the big time registries, I think "PetLink".

I also have an orange reflective strip collar on both her Garmin T50 tracking collar and the Tritronics receiver (she has one or the other on while hunting). And, I use the same as a kennel collar. The strip is very bright and the only thing I can think will help prevent her getting hit by a car at night. All three collars have a complementary brass nameplate with the following information:
    • REWARD
    • CALL (MY WIFE'S NAME) & PHONE NUMBER
    • DOG IS CHIPPED
I get mine from Lion Country Supply, and the plates come riveted to the collars.

Theoretically, a friend thinks that someone who finds the dog will call a woman more readily than a man... was worth the try.

Good luck to all, and again I think this should become a STICKY!!!
