Although they are not rare on Erie, I have never have never seen a longtail before. I was quite excited to get the opportunity to shoot this one this morning. I know they were doing well on them west of us and they usually get some east of us, but they aren't real common around me.... or I just haven't been in the right place at the right time...until today!;) That is now two species (both seaducks) that I have never shot before. If this one only had a tail on him, he would have had to go on the wall, but a young one with no tail.... I'll wait for a prime drake. Although it was a slow day for us, the "shorttail" duck more than made the hunt!:D

Only two days left in our season and the depression is starting to set in....BUT I won't let that ruin my last two days afield! See you tomorrow, unless we whack a bundh of those "other" ducks.:l

........you still have a late season!;) What are the chances that the big water will still be open, come Jan. 3???? Would love to bring the layout up for some late-season bills, reds, and cans... and I'm only about and hour and a half away. Unpressured birds... like the start of the season!:D j.

Gotta agree with Brett on that one. They are far from common. We have seen a few more over the last few seasons, but nothing I'd call common. I shot one hen last year and saw a hen and a drake this year. Hopefully one of our U.P. trips will end up paying off. They are a bit more common N. of the bridge.

    Congrats on a Trophy Bird!!!!!!:)
