we are looking to build some of our own marsh stools as opposed to paying 50 to $70 for something that might last one season. anyone who would care to post up some pictures or share some build ideas would be greatly appreciated

Many have been built simply from 2x4 with pointed end and a piece of 2x8 for a seat. Run a cross brace across shaft to keep from sinking. Brace under side of seat with couple L brackets. If you buy commercial make sure its built from aluminum and it will last. I,ve built them in the past but hard to beat the avery in my opinion. Mine has been used a lot in salt and fresh and held up great and its light to tote as compared to homebuilt.

I have that Cabelas one, and it has lasted several seasons. I'm 225, my brother has used it and he's 300lbs.

The ones I've bought have outlasted the ones I've built. The Avery one is my favorite. The cheaper banded one is ok but difficult to adjust, especially at 5:00 am in knee deep water. My buddy as never had issues with that Cabela's one mentioned.

Made several out of 2x3, 1x2 cross piece and 8x12 (plywood seat). 1x2 cross piece too light material and broke several times. Bought the Avery seats and very well pleased with them.
