What if the "status" has not been properly updated by (you guessed it) - the government?

Should the government now be open to wrongful death lawsuits by the survivors? If it were a private entity that was charged with keeping such records - you can bet your bottom dollar that that is the direction this would head....

Ya mean kinda like the victims going after the hotel the LV shooter used? I agree, the USAF should be trying to figure out how much money the families get. I believe an SGLI insurance policy was about $400K when I was in. Each victims family should at least get that.

It's starting to look like this church shooter didn't get his guns because of one oversight but because of several by several entities.

Pain and suffering torts are limited to $250,000 in Texas, I believe. Loss of income may be more. The average wrongful death settlement is $2 million. If the survivors sue I guess their best route may be Federal if that venue exists for them.

A company can settle (or offer, maybe I should say) for any amount they want to. They could cut each family a $400K check and settle out of court, so long as the family agrees to it, without it ever going to court. In the end, it will probably be cheaper for them that way.

Honestly, I've lost faith in the FBI. I'm not ready to blame the USAF just yet.

Some have seemed to suggest that lying isn't really that big of deal, even to the justice department or a special prosecutor. Not sure why some would consider this type of lying a big deal either.

Lot's of people also lie by omission and by intentionally presenting only one side of a complex issue.
