I have a 1999 mercury 75hp 2 stroke on my duck boat. Im currently in the process of buying a newer pontoon with a 2001 mercury 50hp 2 stroke on it. My question is can i do a direct swap out of these motors without removing the controls and cables with the motors? Can they be disconnected from the motor? It appears so from my research but im not 100% certain.

Where i hunt i dont need to outrun other hunters to a spot so the 50hp will be perfect for my duck boat and the pontoon will benefit from the bigger motor (rated for max 125hp).

Thoughts and or experience swapping something similiar?

It can be done, but doesn't sound like you will be able to do it. You may have to take it to a your boat dealer and have them perform the work.

Im still researching it. Im a do it yourself guy but sometimes its better to just let a professional handle it.
