You are right he SHOULD check out copperhead and YOU SHOULD subsidize his purchase with the difference in price between what he is looking at and can afford. The guy tells us "at this time all I can afford is a KIA what do you think of them", and people on this forum answer back " check out the Benz!" Unreal. Good luck with your new motor fuzzy, let us know how it worked out. Cheers

Allinodad, thanks for the support. I was looking for someone who had actually bought one and could give me some feedback on them. I found a guy on another link and we have been going back and forth. Always better to get it from the Horses mouth rather than the other end. And yes, I was the guy driving Volkswagens back in the 70's.

Well, I found a real good deal on a 16 HP Twister. Guy had bought it last Fall and never put it on his boat. Price was right, I spent $750. Main problem was that the transom mount was straight where I have a 15 degree transom. With the straight mount, it swings up and out of the water while turning. Solution was to get a transom mount off an old outboard from a junk yard for $10 and "adapt" the motor to it. I did some other things, but they were more esthetic than functional.
Does it plane out the old 1542 with 1000 lbs of hunters, decoys and other junk? No, but we are only going a mile or two and it gets us there and back. Reason I wanted it was to go that last 200 yards to the glory hole. Does pretty well, ran through weeds, cattails, what ever was in the way. Prop is supposed to be weedless, but it collects stuff and you have to bounce it periodically. I went where I could never have gone with the 25 Merc that was on before.
Would I buy another one? Probably not. I'm sold on surface drives after this experience, but want a few more horses.
