Shot this deer alittle high and was never able to find him. I happened to stumble upon the body last weekend during shotgun season. My arrow was still stuck in the ribcage so I was happy to find him even though the meat was no good.

No need to tag that deer. Its unfortunate how it turned out but he is under NO obligation to tag it.

If he wants to keep it he actually LEGALLY is required to tag that deer, whether it be a salvage tag or his actual deer tag.

I stand corrected. At least by the information I was given from the Oklahoma warden in the county I hunt. I wonder if it is that way in every state? What I was told is I had to check in just like any other deer. I should have asked him but what happens if I have already used that tag.

I haven't tagged the buck yet. I found it during shotgun season last weekend and I couldn't find my tag in the short amount of time it I was able to look and haven't been back to my parents to search, but now that I found it I have no intentions of shooting anymore deer.

Good for you!!:clap More than legally having to tag, I think any moral hunter who knowingly kills an animal and finds it later, even though the meat's unedible, still should tag it. I'm very proud of you!! :tu

How exactly does morality enter the equation?

That said, I don't know about posing with a pic of the head of the one that got away....
