I will post this in the appropriate forums.

I need to buy 3 decent scopes for a .243, .30-06, and a model 98 Mauser (shooting Eurospec ammo).

I know that it is possible to spend more on the glass than on the gun, but we are not going there.

And since I need 3, I can't put too much into any one of them.

So, what are my best choices in the $200-$350 range?

    Thanks for your suggestions.
    David

Look at Leupold Vx1, Then Bushnell Trophy, or even the newer Redfield line.
That would be a starting point.

For that kind of cash go with Nikon Prostaff optics. I like them for the value and range of options. I outfit all my guns with Leupold but they are just out of that price range.

I'd second the Vortex. Their Diamondback line is an excellent value in the price range you stated.

But the truth is, in the $200-350 range, you will find a multitude of good values from Nikon, Redfield, Burris, Bushnell and Leuopold. Last year I was looking for a scope in a lightly lower price range, and as I also had a Cabelas gift card, I was limited to what they offered. I found:

Bushnell Trophy XLT (3-9) - $139-$169, depending on reticule
    Redfield Revenge (2-7, 3-9) - $139-$179
    Nikon ProStaff (2-7, 3-9) - $149-$179
    Burris Fullfield II (2-7, 3-9) - $149-$199
    Bushnell Trophy DOA Muzzleloader (3-9) - $169
    Redfield Revolution (2-7, 3-9) - $179-$249
    Vortex Diamondback (3-9) - $189-$199
    Nikon Inline XR Muzzleloader (3-9) - $199-$219
    Bushnell Legend Ultra HD (3-9) - $199-$249
    Burris Fullfield E1 (2-7, 3-9) - $199-$249
    Leupold VX-1 (2-7, 3-9) - $209-$229

I ended up with a Vortex Diamondback, but you could not really go too wrong with any of the above.

Meopta Meopro 6 x 42 scopes they are well made and have great quality lenses, for a few dollars more you could have a 3 -9 X 42 variable if tou felt you needed it for the .243.

Leupold VX 1 (still have an older one with friction dials on a .300 Win Mag), Vortex, and although I haven't looked through one, been hearing good things about the Oculus.

The vortex is a great scope for the money. The over the counter exchange system is amazing. I work at a gun shop. We sell the crap out of the that line. Been two years, no issues, no issues.

Lots of good options given, and some bad (JMO). Nix Bushnell anything, in that price range. Unless you're gonna buy a used VX 2/3 Leupy, nix them, as well. I'm a Leupold fan, but the VX1 is out-glassed, for the $, by Nikon Buckmasters, Sightrons, and Vortex. Catch a close out deal on the Nikon Buckmasters or coyote specials. The reticle is as useful for big game, as it is for varmints, and you can find them for under $200. I have a Vortex Viper 2-7 I may part with, which is some serious glass for the $. Diamondbacks are pretty good.
